Another month, another set of awesome set of outdoor events to check out. So get off the couch, stream some of the action, get your tickets , or go participate yourself; whatever you do, don’t say you didn’t get a heads up on these awesome outdoor events happening in February:
Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics; Sochi, Russia; February 7 – 23
The biggest of all outdoor events happening in February, the 2014 Winter Olympics are aiming to deliver the best winter action in the world. From the opening ceremonies to alpine skiing, bobsleighing, curling, biathlons, figure skating, luging and many more, all ending with those gold medals giving away to dreams; check it out in Russia, or watch it in the comfort of your own living room.
Freeride World Tour, 3rd stop: Fieberbrunn Kitzbuheler Alpen, Austria; February 1 – 7
Weather permitting, the third stop for the world’s best skiers is in Austria, where the biggest powder pushers will be finding the best lines down a mountain, ensuring great spectator action and enough vertical to live vicariously through these speed demons. CCSA Championships; Al Quaal Ishpeming, Michigan; February 8-9
The Central Collegiate Ski Association is putting on the best of the best for college skiers in Michigan February 8th and 9th. If you ever thought you needed to head west to see some fast skiing action, think again? These collegiate athletes will be skating and grooming by with an intensity that is justified by spandex outfits.
RC44 Championship Tour Kick Off; Virgin Gorda; British Virgin Islands; February 12 – 16
The debut for the RC44 championship tour will have you forgetting all about the winter time blues as you stare into a different kind of blue of the amazingly scenic and sailboat ready British Virgin Islands. Transport yourself away this February and good luck wanting to come back once you’ve had a taste of the island air.
Pangea Adventure Race; Florida Coast 2 Coast; February 13 – 16
This awesome adventure race open to the most experienced explorers and those interested in multi-day racers will have you traversing from one side of Florida to the other, covering over 250 kilometers of Florida terrain. With a combination of foot, boat, and bike travel; this race will have you collecting check points and battling crocodiles. Okay, there is no crocodiles, but there will be a lot of palm trees.
Aspen Expeditions Redstone Winterfest; Redstone, Colorado; February 14-16
These three days in the beautiful Redstone, Colorado are so jam packed with adventure activities that you’ll need to sit in the snow to cool down by the time it’s over. With ice climbing and mountaineering clinics, as well as ice skating, sculpture carving, sleigh rides, and castle tours; every age and athlete will have something to do in Colorado.
Bandit Ultra Trail Run, 30 & 50k; Simi Valley, California; February 16th
This scenic and quad-killing trail run will guarantee its participants a fun run through the beautiful California countryside. With support stations along the way, and complimentary cramps, earn your finish line by pounding the trail beforehand; this is not a get off the couch and participate event.
Red Bull Crashed Ice: Saint Paul; Minnesota; February 20 -22
This awesome to watch, crazy to participate event held in Saint Paul will have you cheering from your seats or sliding in the rink. With crowds topping the 100,000’s, this event is growing fast. Imagine 4 athletes, decked out in hockey pads, being released from the gate and turned loose on a downhill course full of turns and spills. Simple Session 14; Tallin, Estonia; February 22-23
Celebrating 14 years of everything that is BMX, from the tricks to the culture, this event will bring out some of the biggest BMX athletes from around the world to throw down on a custom made, big trick guarantee park. Check it out in person, or stream it over the net, just don’t forget to buckle your helmet.
Lord Hill Winter Run: 5,10,20, 50K; Snohomish, Washington; February 23
For those Pacific Northwestern runners out there, the Lord Hill is a Washington classic. And with enough race brackets to choose from, find the one that is right for you. You’ll also find aid stations complete with Clif Bars, PB & J sandwiches, and cookies; so no matter how fast you’re running, at least you won’t go hungry.
