With recent federal budget cuts that directly impact our national parks, giving freely of your time has never been more important. Not to mention, if you’re an outdoor junkie then it’s basically your ethical responsibility to give back to the lakes, mountains, and oceans that offer you bountiful recreation and joy. But how do you go about becoming a Volunteer Superhero you may wonder? Never fear, for we’ve put together a superhero pamphlet just for you.

Join the Club…The Sierra Club, That Is
Volunteer Vacations are a staple of the Sierra Club and a great way for you to travel, get outside, and make a difference. Do Some Grunt Work
Getting dirty never felt so good! Trail Restoration is an awesome way to do your part for the outdoors, not to mention you’ll get in a great workout. Hiking trails not only benefits we human folk by giving us hours of scenic recreation but it also benefits plant and wildlife by ensuring that the areas surrounding the trails aren’t trampled on or degraded. Check with your county or city Parks and Recreations office to find out how you can help.

Parks, Glorious Parks!
City, State, and National Parks all need our financial support. But if you’re low on cash, taking a day or two for volunteering can be just as good, if not better. Merely visit the webpage of a park in your area and find out how you can lend a hand. If you can’t find a link, then give them a call.
