Bolder Boulder 10K

It happened Monday, May 27th 2013 – The Bolder Boulder is a 10 kilometer running race with an official site that claims that it’s Americas Best 10k.  How can they boast such a substantial claim? If you’re on the fence about registering for next year, check out these 5 reasons why you should do it.

It’s Really Big
The Bolder Boulder is the 7th largest running race in the world and is the 3rd largest race in the U.S. in which all the participants (usually over 50,000) are timed. It’s sorta a big deal. So big in fact that people as far out in the boonies as Ethiopia come to the small city to participate. And, yes, of course the speedy legends that are Kenyans come, too. But you don’t need to be trying out for the Olympics to run, this race includes everyone from racing royalty to weekend walkers. There is even a wheelchair wave so you really don’t have any excuse not to join in on this Memorial Day Tribute.

All the Package Choices
Upon registration you can decide to pick up only a t-shirt, or you can choose from enough gear to fill your closet. Don’t want to worry yourself with making lunch on race day? You can order things like veggie wraps or varieties of pasta when you register in advanced, which will be ready for your consumption on race day.

Awesome Individual Tracking
Every participant gets a little tag with a coded antennae telling computers who and where you are. Pop that baby in your shoe, then every time you cross one of the timing mats at every mile marker, the super high-tech system records your times. That is neat. If you rock Verizon, they send your splits and finish times to your phone right when you finish. You can even text other bib numbers to see your rivals/friends times. Not savvy with tech stuff, don’t worry, you’ll get your completion certificate and results in the mail.

Basically, It’s a Festival
This year, the city of Boulder ordered up thirty bands for the enjoyment of both runners and spectators alike. They even threw together a Bolder Boulder Bootlegs CD of songs from the course bands. Now when you go on your future runs, you can take that pumped up feeling you had while passing that guy in a wheelchair, with you. Go ahead, check out the course bands from this year here.

For Your Health
If you’ve been to Boulder for a long enough period, you understand that there is something in the air that makes you want to exercise. If your more of the lazy type, the Bolder Boulder is a great day to finally join in on this urge and see what it’s all about. It does the body good!
