Last night, many of our hearts froze as you delivered some of the most beautiful words ever spoken during a State of the Union.
“If Congress won’t act soon to protect future generations, I will. I will direct my cabinet to come up with executive actions we can take — now and in the future — to reduce pollution, prepare our communities for the consequences of climate change and speed the transition to more sustainable sources of energy.”
Sure, it wasn’t the most graceful way to say it, as Marco Rubio pointed out, but the point is it got said clearly and defiantly. And even Rubio didn’t deny that it needed to be done.
See, we have our whole lives ahead of us and we have to live in this place. Quite frankly, it scares us when ten out of the last twelve years were the hottest in recorded history. It frightens us even worse when our leaders fail to act, much less, believe in climate change.
At the beginning of your campaign, you promised hope. Last night, you delivered that. Now we ask that you follow through, even if that means that you, will.
