Many of our grandparents grew up living off the land, experiencing nature daily. Today, young students rarely spend time in unadulterated nature. The National Park Trust recognizes this as a problem, and has been encouraging teachers and parents to join their grassroots movement. National Kids to Parks Day, which will be celebrated May 18, is an opportunity for students to experience local parks and the unique nature their area has.
This is a great opportunity to connect children with a world they rarely see. If you are a parent or teacher, check out the website to see what events will be in your area, or how you can help host an event. If you are unable to attend an event, this is still a great reminder to show youth the adventure they can find in their own area.
